Event description:

Celebration Feast, Live Music from David Rovics

Wanna celebrate a real independence on the Fourth of July?

Come to Media Island for a celebration feast fundraiser, live music from 'flat-picking rabble rouser' David Rovics and a presentation by humanitarian aid caravanistas en route to Cuba.

The fundraiser will support a civil disobedience material aid drive to Cuba, the other 'red, white and blue.' The island, located just 90 miles from Florida, has lived under a trade blockade imposed by the United States since 1962, along with oppressive travel restrictions for people who travel from the US.

This caravan defies the US licensing requirements and trade restrictions to collect and deliver material aid including construction supplies/tools, medical supplies/equipment, and educational/cultural supplies.
Join caravanistas for a fundraiser feast that will feature a $15 meal prepared by local chef and restaurant founder Brian McDonald (newwavechef@gmail.com) and a $10 all-you-can-drink ticket. Live music from Rovics, a Portland, OR-based guitarist/singer (davidrovics.com), will accompany the food.

The preceding presentation will feature Argentinian-born Alicia Jrapko, who has worked with IFCO/Pastors for Peace in recruiting students for the Latin American Medical School Scholarship program and been instrumental in forming the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five. We will also pay homage to the notable civil rights leader and prominent Cuba Caravan advocate, Rev. Lucius Walker.
